Frequently asked questions
Could you be compelled to hand over my interviews?
We never receive the recording, so there is nothing to hand over. The file is read by your browser from your disk and the transcript stays in that browser — the only way we ever see a transcript is if you tick "share this transcript" on it, and that never includes the audio.
Does it work for group discussions?
It transcribes them, but it does not yet label who spoke, so an FGD gives you the words without the attribution. For small groups people usually mark turns during the correction pass.
How accurate is it on field recordings?
Accuracy tracks audio quality, as with any engine. Noisy rooms and distant mics are harder. Everything is timestamped precisely so that checking and fixing is quick rather than painful.
How do you know the recording is not uploaded?
Because there is nowhere for it to go. The speech model runs in your browser and the file is read off your own disk. You can watch it yourself: open your browser's network tab while a transcription runs and you will see no upload.
What does it cost?
Nothing, while we're testing it — no sign-up, no credit card, no daily limit. Your own computer does the processing. All we ask is feedback through the Give feedback button.

Feedback sends what you type plus basic browser info. After a transcription you can also rate its accuracy, and optionally share that transcript's text to help us fix mistakes — only if you tick the box. Recordings are never sent.
